We have been advised by the Hants & Surrey Bristol RE Group, organisers of the Alton Classic Bus and Country Pub Running Day, held the day before our event, that this year's event on Saturday 20th July will be their 10th and final event. If you want to go along and raise a glass to give them a good send-off you'll find information about their event on their website.

We would like to reassure everyone that the Alton Bus Rally & Running Day will continue to be held on the third Sunday in July each year. This year will be our 25th event and we have no plans to call it a day, so why not join us for our Silver Anniversary event on Sunday 21st July.

Alton Bus Rally & Running Day

The event is one of Britain's biggest Bus Rallies & Running Days.

Established in 1995, the event is held on the third Sunday in July each year.

The 'Rally' features a display of around 150 Buses and Coaches of all shapes and sizes from a variety of eras and operating areas. In addition there is also a large display of other types of vehicles including Classic Cars, Lorries, Motorcycles, Vans, Emergency Services and Military vehicles.

The 'Running Day' consists of a network of free bus services operating from Alton to surrounding villages and towns, re-creating the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's era of bus operation in East Hampshire. Buses also connect with Mid Hants Railway Steam and Heritage Diesel Trains.

From strolling around the exhibits on display in the pleasant setting of Anstey Park, to riding on the free bus services through the beautiful Hampshire countryside and watching or travelling on the Mid Hants Railway's Steam and Heritage Diesel Trains there is always plenty to see and do whatever forms of land transport you are interested in.

The 2018 Event

Over 150 buses and coaches attended the event and 45 of these were used to operate the network of free bus services which consisted of 15 routes. In addition there were also more than 200 other vehicle exhibits and 50 sales stands. Over 5,000 visitors attended the event and more than 30 volunteer members of staff did their best to ensure everything ran smoothly and everybody had an enjoyable day.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the event, especially all the vehicle owners. You helped to make the event a huge success. We hope you enjoyed your day and look forward to seeing you next year.
